BIG SHOW ANNOUNCEMENT!
We are pleased to announce that on Friday, October 20th we will be performing at Chicago's legendary Cubby Bear venue, right across the street from where the Chicago Cubs play at glorious Wrigley Field. There is a chance that the Cubs could still be alive in the postseason come then, what a tremendously fun night it will be if that's the case!
For this show we are honored to have special guests Phil Valenti from The Desolates filling in on drums and Erica Loftus from The Right Tidys joining us on stage for backup vocals. Also on the bill are the awesome bands The Ars Nova and Superbig (featuring Chip Z'Nuff).
The evening is brought to you by Shoeshine Boy Productions and Swizzlesteve. More info is on our Shows page!
The recording of the new EP titled "Future Tense" has been put on hold temporarily due to a medical issue in Michael's family that began in June as well as some technical difficulties. The recording is approximately 50% complete at this point. But rest assured it will definitely be worth the wait.
However there have been a couple of developments - Michael played a successful solo acoustic show at the awesome venue Uncommon Ground in Chicago on August 12th. Additionally his new indie electro acoustic boy-girl duo project Modern Wing with Emily Anderson of Dramaglider is getting off the ground. They began tracking their debut single "If You Don't" at DJN Music Studio in late July. Sounding great so far. It's quite different than Collectors which makes it cool. Stay tuned for more developments on this front.
The show on May 13th at Livewire Lounge in Chicago opening for Baltimore based power pop legends Splitsville was truly a night to remember! We played a pretty good set and the other bands (Splitsville, The Handcuffs and Hyperplane) were all amazing. Thanks to the MANY of you who came out the show, the venue was packed and almost at capacity!
We are pleased to report there are lots of good happenings in the Collectors camp...
March saw the tracking of keyboards on our new record titled Future Tense by multi-instrumentalist Walter Kiefer at frontman Michael Mazza's studio MazTrax West. We also determined that we will be mixing and mastering the record with engineer Mike Hagler at Kingsize Sound Labs in Chicago. Mike has an impressive resume, having worked with various acts such as indie rock heavyweights Wilco.
April finds us in full rehearsal mode for our two big shows coming up. April 26th at the Chicago edition of the International Pop Overthrow Festival, this will be our 9th time out of the past 12 years. Then a little over two weeks later we are honored to be opening a show at Chicago's up and coming Livewire Lounge for Baltimore based power pop legends and friends of ours Splitsville. Recently reunited, they are 100% the real deal and making their triumphant return to their "second home" of Chicago after a nine year absence. We opened for them twice in 2005 and once in 2008. All three of those shows were nights to remember and this one certainly won't be any different. Also on the bill are the stellar Chicago bands The Handcuffs (see the December 2016 update below) and Hyperplane. Advance tickets can be purchased online, make sure to buy them in advance as this one has a decent chance of selling out!
Ok, time for us to return to the rock! See you soon.
Guitar overdubs on our new record titled Future Tense began on January 27th at Collectors frontman Michael Mazza's home studio MazTrax West. "I've been really pleased with the guitar tones I've been able to engineer so far on this record - they have a nice big rock sound", says Michael. More to come!
We entered Million Yen Studios in Chicago in November to begin tracking our new record titled Future Tense, slated for release in Summer 2017. We recorded all bass and drums and were honored to have legendary drummer Brad Elvis session on the recording. Brad is the drummer in The Romantics (big 80's hits "What I Like About You" and "Talking In Your Sleep") as well as the drummer and co-songwriter in the excellent band The Handcuffs. The best part was listening to him tell nearly two hours of rock n' roll stories afterwards! Tales of hanging out with David Bowie and of his former bands opening for The Clash, INXS and Van Halen back in the day. Doesn't get much cooler than that!
Besides the release of our new record, April brings our 9th appearance out of the past 12 years at the Chicago edition of the highly regarded International Pop Overthrow Festival. Then in May we are excited to be opening a show at the up and coming Livewire Lounge in Chicago for Baltimore based power pop legends Splitsville.
2016 has been a very good year for the band but 2017 is looking like it's going to be even better!
